Jackie Robinson is a Legend!!!
April 15, 2015
Sixty Eight Years Ago Today Before the Civil Rights Movement a young Black man named Jackie Robinson rose up and conquered the separation between Whites and Blacks in major league baseball. He had the courage to show a revolutionary idea, that blacks and whites could play in the same league and get along. In many of the interviews we have had with him he always reminded us of one single quote “What can a White man do that a Black man can’t.” He said that quote pushed him through many hard times in his early career. Now the strange thing is he did not come from a high income family. In fact when he played baseball as a kid, his mom worked four jobs just to pay rent for a house. It wasn't until middle school that he actually got to play on a team, and it wasn't until college that he prevailed in academics. After college he went into the military and became a Lieutenant. When he got out of the military he didn't feel fulfilled so on April the 15th, 1947, he successfully became the first black Major League Baseball player and became a legend. |
