TributeJackie Robinson has overcome several obstacles in his life. The first obstacle he overcame was when his father left him when he just a little kid. Jackie most of his life really didn’t have fatherly figure in his life to help guide him. This lead to Jackie getting into trouble, but through that Jackie met Reverend Downs and he filled the empty role of a father. He formed structure in Jackie’s life which helped him through high school and college. On April 3, 1942, Jackie was inducted into the U.S. army during WW2. During his time serving Jackie received intense racial discrimination. After serving Jackie went to go play Pro-baseball.The Brooklyn Dodgers president, Branch Rickey scouted Jackie. Players and coaches, not only of the Dodgers, but throughout the all-white league,were extremely upset Jackie was recruited. Jackie’s first season was a nightmare of discrimination, but all of his patience was worth it. In 1947, Jackie was named Rookie of the year, and by 1949, he had received the Most Valuable Player award for the National League. Jackie was greatly talented. Many players have referred to Jackie as the most smart and successful base runner of his era. All of these obstacles that Jackie faced though his life made him a great and person. Through each trial he showed courage, patience, and perseverance. You can see that Jackie was strong emotionally through everything. Jackie Robinson is a great role model and hero. We should act more like him and persevere and achieve our goals. Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play Major League baseball outside of a segregated black league. Jackie Robinson said “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.” Jackie lived up to what he said and he did impact the U.S. . He became an important event in coming closer to racial equality and forever changed the sport of baseball.
